Shiva Chalisa is a forty-chaupai Hindi devotional hymn traditionally attributed to Ayodhya Das, praising Shiva's form, grace, protective power and major devotional narratives.

अर्थDuring the churning of the ocean, a burning poison emerged and distressed both gods and asuras.

अर्थShiva compassionately intervened, and from drinking the poison came the name Neelakantha, the blue-throated one.

अर्थMoved by such intense devotion, Shiva became pleased and granted the desired boon.
