Swaminatha Swamy Temple at Swamimalai is a major Murugan pilgrimage shrine near Kumbakonam. It is revered as one of the six Arupadai Veedu, the traditional sacred abodes of Murugan.

The temple has a long worship tradition and is closely associated with the sacred narrative in which Murugan, as Swaminatha, explains the meaning of the Pranava mantra to Shiva.
ಮಹತ್ವ
Swamimalai is especially revered for the guru symbolism of Murugan as Swaminatha. The shrine is one of the six principal Murugan pilgrimage centres in Tamil tradition.

The hill shrine is approached by sixty steps traditionally associated with the sixty-year Tamil calendar cycle, with the principal Murugan sanctum placed above the lower shrines.
