It is an important Devi pilgrimage destination and a separate excursion from the Nashik city Kumbh bathing areas.
History
The shrine’s sacred identity is rooted in longstanding Shakta traditions. The Nashik district administration describes the image of the Goddess as an approximately eight-foot-high rock-carved figure with eighteen arms. Claims about the exact ancient date of establishment should not be presented as verified history.
Sacred tradition
Devotees worship Goddess Saptashrungi as a manifestation of Bhagavati and associate the site with the Shakti Peeth tradition. Local sacred accounts connect the hill to Goddess Sati and the Goddess’s protective power; these accounts are matters of religious belief.
