Bhagwan Krishna is a central deity of Vaishnava traditions and a principal figure in the Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita and devotional traditions connected with Mathura, Vrindavan and Dwarka. Krishna bhakti has produced a vast range of temple, music and festival traditions across India.

Significance

Krishna is worshipped through many sacred relationships and life episodes, including the child Krishna, the pastoral traditions of Vrindavan and Krishna as teacher of the Bhagavad Gita. Different sampradayas emphasise different theological and devotional dimensions.
