Shahi Snan and Amrit Snan dates

Haridwar's 2027 bathing programme is separate from the Nashik Simhastha. Published pilgrim calendars currently report the following four Amrit Snan dates, but these are provisional until confirmed in an official, dated administration notice.

6 March 2027Provisional Amrit Snan
8 March 2027Provisional Amrit Snan
15 March 2027Provisional Amrit Snan

Do not make non-refundable bookings based solely on these dates. Check official Haridwar Mela administration notices before travel, especially for bathing windows, ghats and procession arrangements.

What is Shahi Snan (Amrit Snan)?

Shahi Snan, also called Amrit Snan, is a ceremonial holy bath associated with the akhadas, religious orders of ascetics and spiritual teachers. Their organised bathing observances are among the most important public traditions of the Kumbh. Pilgrims also bathe as an expression of devotion and spiritual purification.

What happens on a major bathing day?

Akhada processions and reserved bathing periods may take place before public access is permitted at particular ghats. The sequence, participating orders and public entry rules depend on the destination and administration. Do not assume every ghat remains open throughout the day.

Where does the bathing take place?

Har Ki Pauri and Brahma Kund

Har Ki Pauri on the Ganga is Haridwar's best-known sacred bathing area. Brahma Kund is traditionally associated with the Kumbh legend. Public access and the assignment of bathing areas during ceremonial periods are determined by the authorities.

Other ghats

Haridwar has multiple riverfront bathing locations. Only use officially designated bathing areas and follow current river-safety instructions and crowd-control routes.

Temples and sacred places to explore

Haridwar's sacred geography includes Har Ki Pauri, Mansa Devi Temple on Bilwa Parvat, Chandi Devi on Neel Parvat and the Kankhal pilgrimage area. Mansa Devi is traditionally associated with Bilwa Tirtha, one of Haridwar's Panch Tirth. Temple access may be affected by major bathing-day crowds.

How to plan your visit

Before leaving

Choose your bathing destination and date, check the latest official schedule, confirm accommodation directly with the provider, and allow flexible travel time. Carry identification, medicines, drinking water and emergency contacts.

On the bathing day

Follow the designated pedestrian and bathing routes, respect reserved akhada areas, avoid unsafe water, and agree on a family meeting point. Public transport, parking and temple queues may differ from ordinary days.

For families and older pilgrims

Prioritise accessible routes, rest breaks and official assistance points. Do not plan multiple distant temples on a peak ceremonial day.
